Climax Portable Machine Tools

This is a relatively complex, highly designed Drupal site built for Climax, a Newberg, Oregon manufacturer of machine tools for vertical industry markets. I shared planning and architecture responsibilities with Young & Roehr, a now-defunct B2B ad agency in Portland. Young & Roehr handled visual design based on my wireframes; I did all the implementation and development.

The most interesting thing about the site is the right sidebar of "related items." Rather than being built programmatically, these items are assigned to specific pages by the site administrator. Special reports show which items are assigned to what pages, and make it easier to keep the site up to date. This "manual" association of content with other content makes it possible to deliberately cross-promote relevant content, and build awareness for new content areas.

From an administration standpoint, this site is a good example of my philosophy about content creation: users shouldn't have to think about where to put a new page. Instead, they just think "what kind of a page is this?" and the system puts it in the right place. For instance, you create a press release, or a news item, or a product manual, then add some information about the page. The system automatically puts it in all the right places, based on those metadata.
